According to the BBC article in 2011, scientists have been able to block an enzyme called LOLXL2. By doing this preventing metastasis. Metastasis being the spread and growth of the cancer cells. Scientists saw that “90% of cancer deaths are due to tumours migrating around the body” and the enzyme LOLXL2 was linked to cancer spread. I found this quite interesting as it relates to our topic in class of enzymes. Presumably to stop the LOLXL2 from working the scientists used an inhibitor to stop the enzymes doing their original purpose. This could either be a competitive or non-competitive inhibitor the way in which this works is the blocking of the enzyme is due to an inhibiting agent. The article lacks somewhat on the science behind how it is done so it is purely speculation but it is said to be very sucessful
