- To see how the effect of osmosis changes at different concentrations. In this experiment we had 6 different concentrations of sugar solution; 0% (distilled water), 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 100%
- We used ethanoic acid to remove the shells chemically. In large concentrations this may be dangerous so use safety glasses when around acid
- Independent variable
- The concentration of the sucrose solution
- Dependant variable
- The change in the weight of the egg, which we can work out percentage increase or decrease
- Control
- Temperature of the eggs, they were all in the same conditions apart from concentration
- Ethanoic acid, to remove the shells off the eggs
- 6 eggs of roughly the same size
- 6 beakers
- Sugar
- Distilled water
- Weighing scales
- Sieve
- Remove the shells off of the eggs by placing them in ethanoic acid for a day
- Weigh each egg and record this
- Put an egg in each beaker and then add your intended sugar concentrations to each beaker
- For our experiment we had distilled water, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% sugar solution and just sugar
- Then put all of the beakers in the same place so they are in similar conditions and leave for a 3 days
- Weigh the eggs again and calculate percentage change in mass of the eggs
